Saint Elizabeth Seton Women's Guild of Bedford NH

October 6th 2009

We spent a nice evening with The St Elizabeth Seton Women's Guild of Bedford N.H..  It was a pleasure sharing some stories with them and a little education. Some of the ladies brought in a couple of items to share with the others and we did some appraising of them. I think the highlight of the evening was a woman who brought in an early currency note (silver certificate), that she was surprised to see valued out at over $ 1,000.00. (Nice night for her, and I did here the ladies say dinner should be on her soon ).  Over all it was was a wonderful night and I thank Ron Boufford of Global Coin Exchange for joining me again.

Thanks to all the ladies for having us and maybe we will see them again.

Goffstown Historical Association

September 26 2009

Today we spent some time at a fund raising appraisal event for the Goffstown N.H. Historical Association.  It was the perfect day for it . Sunny crisp and their were lots of home cooked fall cookies and of course apple cider.

Traffic was steady with two or three items per person.  We saw a lot of interesting items, some with some unexpected values . This is what I enjoy the most about doing this kind of event.  The happiness education of  certain things people own brings to them when you tell them.

I want to thank all the woman of the association and participants.  I also want to thank my good friend Ron Boufford (from Global Coins) to be on hand for extra assistance in his field.

Great day !!! and look forward to doing it again.

It was a pleasure and we hope to go back again to share more information with this wonderful group of women. Our hats off to you all... What a nice group.

Dunbarton, NH Historical Society

On Wednesday evening we were out enjoying the company of the Dunbarton N.H. Historical Society. We had a brief speech by Ron Boufford on selling gold and silver. Then we did some appraising of a lot of wonderful items.

The highlight of my evening was having a conversation on the seasoning and using (cooking) with
cast iron dutch oven pots. This man was explaining how cooking with old cast iron is the best for
flavor of food. It was a learning conversation for me that I will share more on in my diary if anyone
 is interested.

Fund Raising with Bedford Hills Care & Rehab Center

We had the pleasure of sharing a fund raising event (Seniors Feed N.H.) for the New Hampshire Food Bank last evening at The Bedford Hills Care and Rehab Center on Colby Court in Bedford N.H. Ron Boufford (coin specialist) and I had a lot of fun appraising items brought in for the event. There were a lot of people and a special silent auction besides.

I had an opportunity to work with Matthew Mead again as well. He was there to share his 3 published books and to personally autograph them as they were purchased. It was nice chating with him throughout the 2 hour event. His creativity is overwhelming.

We want to thank Katie for inviting us and we hope (it seemed so) the event was a success.

Thanks for a wonderful evening.  Donna

Sorority of Woman Educators, Manchester, NH

What a fun afternoon I spent with this woman's group today. First we had a special guest ,my friend

Ron Boufford. He spoke for a short period on how to detect good coins or currency. After Ron's presentation, I had the pleasure of going through some of the nice items that the girls brought in for an appraisal. I think one of the neatest things for today was a mustache curling iron with the original burner in the original box. This is why I love my job. All the things one can see on an everyday basis.

I want to thank all the girls for coming to the shop today and for having Ron and I as guest speakers. It was an enjoyable afternoon. Hope to see you in the shop!!!    Donna

Goffstown Mothers Club

The Goffstown Mothers Club decided to step out this evening and have their meeting at From Out Of The Woods. They provided coffee and snacks and I provided some education and appraisals. I was accompanied this evening by my good friend Ron Boufford from Global Coins.  Ron got a chance to explain to the ladies , that in this economy to be careful about how they might sell their coins. Scrapping may not be the only or right way to get the best value for them . He said that you should check with someone you can trust to guide you first.

It was an interesting evening and we shared a lot of laughs together between all the seriousness. I also had a chance to learn about this group that has been around for 65 years helping the local community. My hats off to you girls:) - Donna

Daughters of the American Revolution

I had the pleasure of going to speak for the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution) New Boston Chapter.  Not only was the trip fun, but it was pretty insightful!  Before speaking to the group and doing some brief appraising of the items they brought in , I had the pleasure of speaking with one of the members Fay Benton. She explained to me the story behind the D.A.R. and all the fun and research it takes to find out about if you have any descendants that were in the Revolutionary War. Wouldn't everyone love to know their history in that way!?

What an enlightening visit.  I had a great time sharing stories and I want to offer a special thanks to the ladies.
Thank you so much ladies for making a donation to The Webster House (children's home)!

Hippo Press Editorials

For a couple of years now I have had the pleasure of writing a weekly antiques and collectible column for a local weekly paper here in Manchester N.H.  The paper is The Hippo and the name of my column is Treasure Hunt. It is based around people writing in to find out what antique or collectible they have and possibly a value for it .  It has been so much fun, and some of the antique items have been very interesting, so I thought I would share some with you and I hope you enjoy reading them.

If you have an item that you would like to have me look at, feel free to send me a picture and some information and I will get back to you.  Please CLICK HERE to read all articles currently posted.

Webster House

In 1884 the Manchester Children’s Home (Webster House) was founded. The mission was to provide a safe home for children who were unable to live at home. The home was founded by local churches in the area who identified the need and took the necessary steps to create the home. The Amoskeag Mill Corporation then the biggest employer in Manchester partnered with the churches and provided the land for the home to be built on.  This fine example of community partnering is what has allowed the children’s home to flourish over the past 125 years. Webster House has been able to continue its mission of providing a healthy home for children because of the community’s long standing willingness to help us out in good times and bad. The home is licensed by the State of New Hampshire and receives funds for services for the boys and girls that come to live at the home. Funding covers the basics, and that is where the community has stepped up to fill in the gap so the home can continue to provide the best possible services for children and families in need. I myself having lived there for several years know first hand what help they can be to a youth. I am currently on the board of directors as a way of paying it back. I want to thank all of the people that have donated to The Webster House on  behalf of From Out Of The Woods  Antique Center. If you are looking for more information on The Webster House (children's home ) please feel free to call for a brochure or a tour. 603-624-8668  The Webster House  135 Webster St Manchester N.H. 03104
